Players Still Coming To Chelsea?

Well we may not have a manager but that’s not going to stop half of Europe’s players being linked to us. And the list of players we’re reported to be interested in bringing to the club – all signed up and raring to go when a manager arrives we’ll have to assume – continues to grow.

So let’s start with a biggie – Porto winger Quaresma – who’s also wanted by Real Madrid and our ex-boss at Inter. With Porto looking set to miss out on Champions League football next season, the 24 year old may well want to take this opportunity to move on and Roman might just be prepared to pay the £24million asking price for a bit more pace and skill on the Chelsea wing. And whilst we’re on the Portuguese theme, Deco, according to the press has been showing a keen interest in the appointment of the next Chelsea manager. Rumour has it though, if it’s not Scolari, the chances of Deco making us his next club would be considerably slimmer.

A lesser known name, although reckoned in France to be the new Drogba, is St Etienne striker, Bafetimbi Gomis. And whilst Arsenal and Newcastle are reported to have backed off once Gomis signed a new contract, the papers are suggesting Roman believes an offer of £20million will see that minor technicality sorted.

Samuel Eto’o continues to be linked to a Stamford Bridge move and recent reports suggest there are 3 bids on the table for the Barca striker – ours, AC and yes, of course, Mourinho’s Inter Milan again. AC’s lack of Champions League football is thought to count against them in the race for his signature though and Mourinho’s preference as we all know already, would be Didier Drogba. So, by a process of elimination, the rags’ assumption is that Eto’o will be safely installed at the Bridge next season, subject to some ridiculous sum of money no doubt. Also rumoured to be offered silly money is AC’s Pirlo. The seemingly unsettled midfielder, if you believe everything you read, is to be offered £7million a year in an effort to persuade him to make the move to Stamford Bridge.

Robinho, like Eto’o also continues to be linked to us in the press, as does Berbatov intermittently and more recently, Bentley. In fact, if there’s a player even close to being available then you can bet his name will be on our most-wanted list – mainly because the press will put it there.

Personally I still reckon we need a manager first, but as long as the press are happy what should we care?
