Not Looking Healthy At Chelsea?

With a large chunk of the Chelsea squad away on international duty and the ‘new and improved’ Manchester City – well Man City with the addition of money plus Robinho at least – to face at the weekend, what sort of squad will we have available against them?

Well, Cobham has been reported to look about as lively as Amir Khan on Saturday night, with only a handful of players left behind to train. Of note though, is that alongside the few left behind, Didier Drogba continues with his lengthy recovery programme.

Reports suggest both Michael Ballack and John Obi Mikel (taking slightly less time to recover) could both feature against City at the weekend, which is good news following Michael Essien’s recent injury sustained during his international for Ghana against Libya. Sadly, having kept our fingers crossed all morning whilst reports in the press suggested our midfield powerhouse could face up to six months out with cruciate damage requiring surgery, an official statement from the club has just confirmed our worst fears. Essien has indeed done some serious damage and will face surgery in about a week’s time, ruling him out until 2009.

Manchester City meanwhile are reported to be considering starting Robinho on the bench, although having just paid £32.5million for their star player, you’d have to assume the plan is to bring him on for a rousing reception (from the home crowd obviously) during the early stages?

As for the rest of our squad, well let’s just hope they all get back safe and well for Saturday.
